Question:
I am 5 days post op. I keep on hearing these grumbling sounds.
Are these sounds from my stomach. I already had one loose BM so I know what that sound like. Just wondering if that is the food and water going into my pouch. Is it getting backed-up and funnelling in? It last all day long. I think its gas just not sure, its pretty loud. — karlahill (posted on February 22, 2003)

I had the same thing after surgery. It will calm as time goes by. It's just
your new plumbing settling in to it's new home.

Yes... I agree with the previous poster. My stomach growled all the time
right after surgery. I couldn't tell if I was hungry, full or what. I just
ate because I knew I had to. Eventually, it mostly started just growling
AFTER I ate. LOUDLY. I think that was just the unused stomach wondering
when it's food was coming. At 6 1/2 months out, it doesn't seem to growl
as much any more--or else I'm just used to it and don't notice? :)

I'm nine days postop from an open RNY and have been having the same
sensations. Lots and lots of rumbling, some burping, plenty of gas passed.
It calmed down about two days ago and now only happens at some points of
the day, not ALL day. Hang in there!

My son thought I sounded like a dinosaur. These sound effects will subside
in a couple of weeks. Funny though, they kick back in though for me if I
get nervous--like before a public speaking engagement--so I hope eventually
they go TOTALLY away cause the mike can pick up everything!!! Good Luck

It's your pouch saying HI and be kind to me! LOL It will improve. I am 3
weeks out and if I drink too much at once, which I have a tendency to do,
the water will hit my pouch and stop for a second and then gurgle it's way
into it. I had a lot of problems with diahria the 2nd week and let me tell
you my pouch, small intestine and bowel did a lot of taling back. It got
to the point that if I drank anything I was miserable. I still had my
g-tube so we went back to me putting 99% of my water in that way so I would
not get dehydrated. It also allowed everything else to settle down and
become normal. My bowel actually got to the point of being reactionary for
no reason. Things are fine now. Just talk nice to your pouch and it will
get better.

I'm a believer in the more you walk, the faster you will get through this
phase...the movement really helped me to get everything working through the
plumbing.
