Question:
Need Help with the letter for Plastic Surgery
Hi there...I am in the process of meeting with a plastic surgeon. I would love, please, please, please, someones help in writing a letter that she could sign (or something close to it) that shows "reconstructive" needs as opposed to "cosmetic"...so that Aetna will possibly cover my PS. I have letters from my PCP, OB/GYn and Surgeon (Rny) but I know the PS will not write as good of a letter as I really need. HELP...please. My appt is coming up and I really want to have something to bring with me. Please email me at [email protected]. G-D Bless and thanks so much. — Audra C. (posted on December 9, 2002)

Go to the plastic surgery forum and go to the Q&A link and do a search
on 'appeal'. That's what I did and I got all kinds of info. In my case, I
did not get the TT covered, because the insurance didn't think it was bad
enough. And I just can't take it to that level. It has to be a rash, it's
gotta be all stinky and infected, and it has to have hung around
awhile...that's kinda what I got from it. I have Cigna HMO, by the way.
GOOD LUCK!!!! Feel free to email me if you have any questions.

My primary and secondary insurance providers approved by panniculectomy and
brachioplasty last year. The primary provider did deny the surgery
initially, requiring that I go through their appeals process. They
approved the surgeries within one week of receiving my appeal packet. I
will be happy to send you copies of my appeals material. Please contact me
at [email protected].
