Question:
Need some advice on this ringing in my right ear......

It happened when I was leaving the hospital on the day I was released from my lap rny. I'm 6 months post op down 79#. I have weaned myself off of b.p., cholesterol and arthritis meds. (w/help of doctor). My b.p. is normal now. So why is there this ringing in my right ear sometimes, more like my heartbeat is in my right ear? Sounds strange, I know, but it's happening. Anyone else experience this? I'm so curious.    — blank first name B. (posted on May 8, 2002)

I would urge you to call your doctor and get your blood level checked. I had similar symptoms and had a very low blood count that required blood transfusion. My heart was also pounding if I walked up the stairs and had ringing and pounding in my head. My hemoglobin was 4. Not to scare you but best to be safe than sorry. Good Luck.

Go to an ear dr. Just because you had WLS doesn't necessarily mean that every thing that happens to you is a result of it even if that is when symptoms may have been first noticed. However, ringing in the ears may be a side effect to some types of strong anti-biotics, so again there may be that connection. Anyway go to an ear dr to have him check it out.

I have tinnitus, which sounds like what you could be describing. The same thing happens to me. And certain noises can set it off, or it can happen all by itself. There will be times when I get it every day for a while, then I can go for weeks without it. There's not a whole heck of a lot they can do, but the last time I was at the Dr. for it was years ago, so maybe things have changed. I have just learned to 'live with it', but maybe I will bring it up again at my next appt.
