Question:
My post op diet includes Slimfast, has anyone else had this in their post op diet?

In the paperwork my dietitian gave me for my post op diet, I am instructed to go on 2 weeks of clear liquids, then 2 to 4 weeks of Slimfast, at four cans a day. I was surprised at this and mentioned it to the dietitian, due to the high sugar content. She said she was surprised when she saw it too, but that maybe it did not cause dumping because of drinking it in such small quantities the first few weeks. Any thought on this? I would appreciate any feedback.    — ScatCat (posted on March 11, 2002)

I would think you'd be better off with a multivitamin and plain no carb protein powder mixed with milk (or water), rather than slimfast! It's kind of like drinking a real milk shake- and I would question it. Doctor or not, I tell anyone (surgery or not) to pass on the slimfast.......

My dietician said absolutly NO slim fast because of the sugars. I am seeing that everyone's program is different. I sure would question it though since your dietician was surprised as well.

Thank you for all of the helpful responses! When I finally do make it to a surgeon <sigh> I will be sure to bring this up. By the way, I am a Kaiser patient, and it is a Kaiser dietitian that gave me this diet. Has any other Kaiser patients been given this diet? Just a thought. Thanks again everyone!

I'd try Atkins shakes. They have NO sugar. Only 4 grams of carbs and 2 of those are fiber.
