Question:
Why is my skin so dry at two months post op?
I've always prided myself in my clear, smooth complexion. but lately, my skin all over, especially my face, is so dry. I'm getting in the liquids, mostly water. Is it going to be like this from here on out or is it because it's winter? Also, I hear people talk about getting acne post-op. It's not quite that bad with me. My face is still clear but under my chin, on my neckline, I'm getting these little bumps, kind of like you'd have on your arms. I'm buff-puffing and don't know what else to do. I want them to GO AWAY. — blank first name B. (posted on December 26, 2001)

Ive the same problem and it is the only real problem following my surgery.
My doctor says it has to do with not enough water; my nutritionist says its
the lack of fat and oil in my diet. Both are probably right as butter used
to be my best friend and Im not sure I have ever gotten all the
water/fluids Im supposed--though my labs are fine. My bedside table looks
like the cosmetics counter at Nordstrom with every kind of oil and lotion
setting there. I have found jojoba oil provides the deepest level of
moisture lock in. Im also about to start using pure coconut oil I
discovered at the health food store. Im 5 mths out, down 128 lbs and
thrilled with the results--except that for the first time in my life I
actually look my age. OhNo! Good luck and learn to love lotion, like a
water bottle Im never without hand lotion and facial moisturizer.

We do not absorb fats/oils in the same way as before, so we lack A,D &
E, at a minimum. You might want to try 800IU of DRY form vit E (powder in
caps), we well as a dry A&D a day and see if you can reintroduce what
you\'ve lost. Also, water. Very critical, for everything, not just your
wt loss.

Try asking your PCP for a prescription of Lac-Hydrin 12% lotion. This has
been THE BEST stuff for re-hydrating my skin that I've found. I originally
was prescribed it for my feet... the skin on my heels would crack and
bleed...it was ugly. But I've found it works really well on the rest of
me. BE AWARE: It can cause photo-sensitivity - so if you're a 'sun
worshiper' or do the tanning-bed regularly, it probably isn't a good
product for you. I'll start back at the tanning bed in March. Then I'll
switch to a product called "Body Drench". It is a GREAT product
for tanners, giving the moistest skin (which results in the richest tan)
that I've ever found. You can get it at Lotionbarn.com.
