Question:
Aetna HMO Member Services said WLS is NOT covered! What now?
I was shocked at this since I have seen many people that have had Aetna HMO were approved. What should I do now? I don't want to give up before I even start. Should I discuss it with my PCP anyway & pray for approval later? Does anyone know if this sort of thing could be specific to my employer's plan? — Stacy R. (posted on January 24, 2001)

I have Aetna and my policy has an exclusion for anything that deals with
obesity.. but I called them on the phone and they said even though my
policy had the exclusion to turn it in anyway and it would go before a
review board. Well I did all my homework, I had 5 years of diet history,
doctor reports, referals from my doctor and orthopedic surgeon recommding
the surgery I had copies of my medical records showing that I had had
doctors help with diets many many times. Well I was approved in 2 days..
so call your insurance and have them learn your name and don't give up.
