Question:
About 4 days ago, my entire body started tingling.

About a month ago, it started in my chest. It has now spread to my entire body. I just had bloodwork done but have not been eating enough protein for some time. I'm wondering if this could cause it. One doctor thinks it's neuropathy but my blood sugars have been great since my surgery in 2001, and, I don't think my entire body would be affected that quickly. Thank you.    — kdfigueroa (posted on July 28, 2004)

Get the too your doctor asap and find out what's going on. Have you been doing your vitamins? B-12 deficiency often causes tingling, but this tingling could be any number of things.

I have to agree, get to your doctor and force them to address the tingling!! I had the same thing happen to me, but mine started in my feet and worked it's way up. This happened in March and I am just now starting to feel better. I am still numb from my chest down, but no longer require a walker to walk. I was diagnosed with neuropathy (am not nor never have been diabetic) from vitamin deficiency. I take massive doses of B-1, B-6 and B-12 now along with a multivitamin (one of the new ones for low carb dieters) and calcium with vitamin D. You may not have the same thing that I have, but losing the use of your legs is not something you want to do. Let us know how you are doing and you can email me directly if you want any more information. Good Luck! Tina RNY 12/4/04 288/178/150?

Neuropathy does not affect only diabetics so your blood glucose levels really have nothing to do with it. My Father in Law (as well as his mom) have neurapthy and neither one is diabetic. I'm not sure about the symptoms of protein deficiency, but you really need to get those levels up - your far enough out for lack of protein to really start causing problems. Good Luck.

LOW POTASSIUM! If it's that it is VERY dangerous! Read my profile for the summer of 2001. I ended up in the ER twice and had to have IV's of potassium. Not fun but certainly better than a heart attack. Personally if I was still tingling I'd go IMMEDIATLY to the ER, tell them you suspect low potassium. They will do the blood work and give you potassium by IV, should you need it. They will probally also put you on an EKG just to monitor your heart. Of course, this tingling COULD be something else, but I'll bet it's low potassium.

Maybe you need to see a neurologist or an endocrinologist or both?? Good luck.
