Question:
Should I change insurance?

Ok, guys and gals, here's my question. Many of you know I've been fighting with John Deere for a TT and leg lift for about 9 months now. Dr Coster and I have recently written letters to the IL state insurance commisssioner about this. We'll see what happens. But I'm about to take another job with benefits (I'm on COBRA now w/JD). 1) Should I cancel my COBRA w/JD and take the new ins co? 2) Do you think the new ins co will pay for it if I've been denied 4 times by JD? 3) Any other suggestions??? Thanks! Robby Coster 3/15/02 350/193/185    — Robby E. (posted on September 17, 2003)

I have excellent insurance and yet there is a very minimal chance it will cover the skin removal. I would think you would wait till you have a decision from the insurance commissioner but then again if you don't take the insurance at your new job from the start you could get hit with a bunch of pre-existing conditions etc clauses. I doubt you will be successful with the insurance commissioner so I would not lose the opportunity to get new insurance and live with whatever the situation is. Sounds like it won't be any worse than with JD. I'd start saving if I was you.

The previous poster is wrong. You won't be hit with pre-existing clauses if you've had a years worth of continuous health insurance coverage. I think I would wait until you hear back from the insurance commissioner, UNLESS your COBRA is going to run out in the next couple of month. If you've still got quite a bit of time, wait out the appeal. If they deny it, then I would probably consider changing to the new insurance carrier. Your going to have to eventually take the new insurance and I'm sure your new employer is paying some portion of your premium and there not doing that on your COBRA premium. I think you take the chance of being denied by any insurance carrier. All you can do is submit your appeals and see what happens. I've been approved for a tt but denied for a brachioplasty. You never know until you submit it.
