Question:

i have already had one denial and am so tired of this already. it has been 3 months since submitting and i cant imagine how long to appeal. my question is this: has anyone had surgery in mexico? the posts are so positive about the docs, but i worry about communication. if they only speak spanish, how do you communicate? does anyone know of one who speaks english? thanks! darci    — darci T. If you will go to the South of the Border forum here you will find everything you need to know about rates and etc. It is one of the new features on the site and comes up on the left of my gallery page.

I am also going to Dr. Aguirre in Mexico to have my surgery done. Some of his nurses do not speak English but that's ok to me. I went and checked out a few books from the library just to learn some basic words that I may need to know while on my trip. Read up on some of his patients profiles to get all of the details that you may want to know. He has a forum here and it is very informative from travel, the hospital stay, aftercare, etc.

Darci....Dr Aguirre speaks English. He is also very affordable. I have not heard of anyone that has had a major problem with the communication issue. I did hear one lady say that she could not understand the nurse...the nurse went and got an English speaking nurse for her. I would do as some of the others have done...learn a few basic words to get you by...or one lady made flash cards to take with her so if all else..they could read what she needed. I understand Spanish and speak it as well, so I am just hoping that I don't forget. If you are worried about this go to the South of the Border forum.....talk to previous patients, they have tons of info on cab drivers who speak English (and phone #s ), hotels that speak English, that type of thing. I think that you will find that most of the Mexican surgeons will help you work around the communication. I have found that Dr Aguirre is the most affordable and I liked him best!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you want any more info you can email me privately!!!! Good luck to you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Darci - I had my surgery with Dr. Aguirre in Ensenada. I speak VERY little Spanish but can understand some words if they are spoken very slowly and repeated often! ha I had no problems whatsoever in communicating with the nurses. They either speak some English or are in the process of learning English. In fact, they would have their Spanish to English tapes going sometimes and I would help them with pronunciation of some words. They are wonderful and loving and caring people. I highly recommend going. In Ensenada, many people speak English or can at least get by. At the hotel, everyone spoke English and Spanish. Don't worry about the language. It won't be a barrier. If you have questions, please feel free to contact me.

Hi Darci, I also used Dr.Aguirre in Ensenada,Mexico. I had "NO" problems with the language barrier, and I don't speak or understand "any" spanish. If I had to do it all again I would in a minute! I'am very happy with everything. I have a very detailed profile with all the information on my trip to Mexico, from A to Z. Please feel free to read it and let me know if I can be of any more help to you. Good Luck to you in whatever you decide to do!
