Question:
I am 3 weeks post-op and I get heart palpatations

I've noticed heart palpatations when I walk to fast or do to much. I'm worried about this. I had a stress test before my surgery and they said my heart was fine.I go to my docter on Wednesday but I wanted to know if anyone else has or had this?    — Debbie E. (posted on May 11, 2003)

I had the same problem the Dr.'s thought it was just from the stress of the surgery but I did spend a week in cardiac care and was on some medicine to regulate my heart for about three months all is well now 1 yr post opt and i walk 2 miles a day no problems (down 140 lbs).

I also had this problem and it turned out that I was extremely deficient in potassium. Potassium helps to regulate your heart beat and lack of it will cause your heart to skip beats, "flutter" or "flip-flop". It was very scary! But the solution was simply to start taking prescription strength potassium daily and I've been fine ever since. Your PCP should be able to order a simple CBC to check this for you. Good Luck.

Debbie, this happened to me as well. And my chest would also feel like I had an elephant on it. My palpitations and pressured-feeling got so bad I went to the ER. I was fine, like someone said before, it could be the stress from the surgery. And not just the emotional stress, but the physical stress your body went through as well. Ofcourse get it checked out to be safe. Goodluck and feel better!
