Question:
Anyone know of any LOANS for WLS?
Hi All, I was wondering if you could supply me with any information about applying for a loan for this procedure. Unfortunately, I am not covered under my insurance plan, so I have opted to go to Spain to get the LapDS. I have guesstimated that everything will probably come to about $20,000 USD. However, at this time, I only have about half of this. Do you know of any banks or federal programs that would give me a loan even though I would be getting this done overseas? Also, I have no credit line! Will this effect my ability to even apply for one? I would greatly appreciate any info, advice or links you could provide. Megan — Megan R. (posted on January 18, 2003)

I think before you apply for, or look for a loan, you need to be sure of
the costs. I think your guesstimate may be low??

Sweetie-For 20 thousand dollars--skip Spain and come to Delaware--I know
they'll give you a cash price. With insurance--the BILLED amount didn't
hit that amount..and of course contracted much lower. I was an open RNY
who spent 3 nites in the hospital--private room in November 2002. Keep the
emotional comfort of being stateside, and hearing your native tongue spoke
to you when you wake up. Do you own a home? You could run a home equity
loan for this if there is no room on your credit card. Additionally, there
are TONS of loans available for anything--but beware HUGE finance charges
apply.

Try Patientfinance.com. I thoughgt PFS was too secretive about everything.
They weren't too forthcoming about finance charges, etc. I think both
finance thru MBNA anyway.Good LUck.

You can take out a personal loan. I went to www.lendingtree.com, where you
fill out the info and up to four creditors will make you an offer if you
meet their qualifications. I ended up getting approved for $12000.00
thorugh MBNA for my plastic surgery. It was quick and easy. Good Luck!

WHile researching the lap-band, I reviewed Inamed.com, the site for the
company that makes them... well, they have a link to a financing company
specifically for WLS. I don't know the details, but I imagine they would
finance for any type of WLS. Just go to Inamed's site, and look under
costs and paying for surgery.

I have only a year of credit history in the US and found it impossible to
get an unsecured loan. Capital One does have a medical loan though if you
want to try. For around 9-10k you'd be better going to Mexico. Two of the
best Lap Band surgeons in the world are there..one in Monterrey one in
Tijuana. The one is Tijuana picks you up at San Diego airport and charges
around 8,500 for everything. They are both listed as Lap BAnd specialists
and have practiced medicine in the US at some point.

I have an idea----
How bout your 401k or your husbands' 401k. You pay your self back and can
get the $ in a matter of days.. Thats probably what I will do if I end up
being a self pay..
