Question:
Has anyone ever appealed to great west ins. company?
My ins. company denied me yesterday because they said i needed year of documented/supervised weight loss attempt with my DR. so i guess i get to appeal. I i could stick with something for a rear then i probably wouldnt need WLS! Besides they knew i didnt have this and sent me on to my psych evaluation and everything! I'm very upset! can anyone give me advisce on this???!!! — [Deactivated Member] (posted on December 6, 2002)

They told me I had to have a year of documented diet attempts also. I sent
them a list I had wrote out and they accepted it. I had no doctor
suprevised diets just over the counter and weight watcher, things like
that. I would send them that, and a letter about why you need this
surgery. I had no problems with them at all. I was approved in 2 days
after my psych. eval. Good Luck!!

Yes, they suck, especially if you have an ERISA (California) PPO. They do
whatever they need to deny you, and they no longer cover revisions. They
are the reason we need a national health plan. We had 5 different docs
document medical necessity, (PCP, endo, bariatric, physical therapy, and
psych) and they STILL DENIED. I wish that they would all need a transplant
and it would be denied. I don't know how they sleep at night.
