Question:
I have lost 66 pounds in 3 months
Is that to fast? I am 5'9" and 310 pre-surgery and have lost 66 pounds in just 3 months. Doctor didn't seem worried. The 1 thing I did not want to do was to lose to fast, I know that is not very good for you. Thanks — Sharon H. (posted on August 15, 2002)

WOW!!!!! It seems to me that you are doing wonderfully with
your weight loss. You have lost 22 lbs per month. That does
not seem too fast to me. I lost 51 lbs the first 2 weeks.
Then at 6 weeks my total was 81 lbs. At 8 weeks: 90 lbs.
At 3 mos: 129 lbs. At 4 mos: 145 lbs. Now I am at 10 mos
post-op and have lost 210 lbs. Each of us loses at our own
rate. Do not compare your weight loss with mine or anyone
elses!!! You body knows what it is doing. Now, Sharon, the
next statement is a JOKE!!!!!!! PLEASE TAKE IT THAT WAY!!!
You are a girl and girls lose slower than us men!!!! Our
metabolism is just higher than yours and we get that weight
off faster!! REMEMBER, THAT IS A JOKE!!!! Seriously though,
it seems to me that the more a person weighs at the beginning,
the faster they lose at the beginning. I have been reading this
board a long time and that is just the way it seems to be.
Good luck with your future losses. Hope it goes just as well
for you.

Congradulations on your weight loss. I see that you are tall also I am 6'1
started at 293 in March and now am down to 195 5 months later. So your
answer is no that is not too fast. My goals is to be at 175 by October 1.
Keep up the good work

Sharon, You're pretty much on the same pace that I was on. I'm 5'10"
and started at 314 pounds. I lost 65 pounds at 3 months post op. I was
down 100 by 7 months post op. I'm down a total of 145 now and a bit over
two years post op. I've been doing fine. I think you're doing well!

You're probally fine... especially with your height. However don't be
surprised if you need to have your gallbladder out. ;)

Sharon- I was 6'2 and around 350 when I started. I lost 51 pounds the
first month and am now down 97 pounds in 3 1/2 months. Each time I go to
my surgeon I ask him if he's concerned about my weight loss total and he
keeps telling me not to worry. I told him that if he's happy, I'm happy.
Just keep following the nutritional guidelines for protein and hydration
and you should be fine. Congrats! - Mike

Susan, I lost 56.5 lbs in three months.... (70.5 if you count the weight I
lost one month before WLS). Anyway, I lost so fast that at 10 months post
op I needed my gallbladder out. (Seems that is common anyway). Now it looks
as if I have Kidney stones too. Seems like the rapid weight loss (which is
wonderful) really increases the risk.
