Question:
after 5 months postop, my incision line is bothering me from the inside!
Lately when I sneeze or cough,or exert any abdominal pressure, I can feel a twinge along my rny incision line. I thought I might be having problems because of some medication (celebrex) acting against healing, but the doctor says no - it is part of the healing process and people heal differently. Anyone else experience this? I'm really concerned. — Marian H. (posted on December 1, 2001)

I'm a WLS pre-op so I can't talk about that particular surgery, but I had
the same thing happen when I had open gall bladder surgery several years
ago. I panicked, but it turned out to be scar tissue that had formed at
and around the incision site. It felt funny because it isn't as pliable as
muscle, and had to be "broken in" over time. Sneezing or
coughing might just be putting pressure on an area you haven't really used
much otherwise. I'm sure it's fine, but if an actual bulge appears it may
be wise to have your doctor check for a hernia. Good luck!

Hi! I am now 11 mos. post-op (Rny proximal) and my incision
used to itch a lot. It's just now kind of getting lighter.
You might want to go to your PCP and get x-rayed to see if
something is "going-on" inside. Good luck!
