Question:
My brother is on welfare and has an appointment with Dr. Stellato will they approve?
We haven't look real hard into welfare if they will caover this surgery or not. He is 500 and has many medical problems and desperetly needs this surgery please if you know anything we can do to research this out. His appointment is for Nov. 20th. — kyad7 (posted on September 18, 2000)

In Ky. the State does cover the surgery. He has all of the issues that they
require. Each surgeon has different criteria and one is a psyc. evaluation.
The only time that I know of a surgeon refusing is if they think that what
needs to be followed after surgery can't be followed. Here in Ky. they do
not send you through a big approval thing. If your PCP says you need it
then you get it. Its the surgeon who can be the holdout. Good Luck...Trina

Dr Stellato did my surgery in July. He is a kind, compassionate
doctor. You need to call his office asst, Carol at 216 844 3021
and ask her this question. He DOES have an option that you can
sign whereby you make the monthly pmts if your insurance carrier
does not pay. They will make the pmts affordable from what I was
told. They will also appeal your insurance's denial if necessary,
which is what they are doing for me right now. Please call and talk
to Carol. She is a wonderful person and will help you find the answers
you need. GOOD LUCK!!
