Question:
Carboxyhemoglobin Testing
My doctor will be doing a Carboxyhemoglobin Test during my pre-op testing a week before surgery. Has anyone had this test done? I have no smoked for 2 months and my surgery date is 9/11/03. Will my test show up negative for carbon monoxide? — Rhonda G. (posted on July 30, 2003)

Yep, I think so........ Go into the library section of the site and type
in smoking as your search. I found many answers to this question. I am
scheduled for 9/30/2003 and need to stop too (actually I needed too stop
for 2 months before they would even look at me, I fibbed). Now I am
worried.

Ok, you got me hooked on this question! I did some searching..... cotine
stays in you body for 2-4 days. Be safe stop soon. There is also a web
site (www.passyourdrugtest.com) where you can buy a nicotine urine test for
about $11.00 to find out if you will clear.

This test checks for the carbon monoxide levels in the blood. I understand
it takes up to 3 weeks for the c02 levels to come down in your blood from
smoking cigarettes.
