Question:
Has anyone had their legs do this?
I have lost 117 lbs since my open RNY on 3/6/02. I started out wearing size 4X and now I can wear an XL in many things and size 20 in slacks. I definitely will need a TT and I have bat wings. I can deal with that. But my legs look awful. My thighs have slimmed and I have loose skin. But then on down my legs aroung my knees my legs become bigger. And my calves are huge. This makes it very difficult to have pants fit in the waist, stomach, butts, hips and thighs and then be tight at the knees and calves. I exercise at Curves and I've lost many inches, but myknees and calves aren't decreasing hardly at all. It's like my thighs fell down to my knees. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there anything I can do? — jan M. (posted on October 27, 2002)

I have had the same problem, well almost, I am alredy at goal, but I wsa
walking 7 miles a day and my calves were gaining muscle, and my jeans never
seemed to fit right, since i have stopp all the walking and just been doing
weight training at Kurves For Females here inmy town, my calves are getting
tiny, I lost an inch just last month in them,, you never said whether your
calves were big from execise or just from loose skin though,, sounds like
your doing great with your weight loss keep up the great job!!!my stats are
as folows:
post-op 02-27-02 -144 pounds and -95 inches I am at goal went from size
3xs and 26/28 jeans to size small/medium tops and size 3/4s in jeans...

I just want to clarify what I said before--My calves have always been
large, but before I became they were not abnormally large. Since I have
been losing weight, my calves have not gone down in size much--nor my
knees. I don't walk alot, but I do go and work out at Curves for Women on
an average of 3/wk. My thighs taper down to above my knees and then my
knees are larger and my calves are big. What can I do?

I would suggest getting a trainer at Curves and working with them on those
areas that need refining.

I knew a lady that had that problem. She said it was some type of edema and
that there was nothing she could do about it. She looked like a thin person
with MO calves. Maybe you could talk to your PCP? I do have naturally big
calves--always have--but they haven't gotten bigger. They just didn't get
much smaller.

I understand where your coming from! I too have always had big calves, I'm
-90 lbs lap. RNY 5/23/02, but yesterday while shopping for jeans I realized
that I've lost weight everywhere but there! I too had a hard time finding
jeans that weren't calf constrictors!!! Stay away from Levi's, I learned
that yesterday.....lol.. I feel like when I reach goal my legs are going to
be the same size from top to bottom, or worse my calves will be bigger than
my thighs AUGH!!!!! Hey maybe in a few years big calves will be trendy and
you and I will have the in !!!!!!......lol...
Good Luck!!{:-)
