Question:
Does anyone know anything about Dr. Murr in Tampa, FL?
I am considering Dr. Murr for my WLS. He is a surgeon at Tampa General. I've heard he's good, but my concern is that he's only done about 175 and 3 have died. I understand that one patient had heart problems prior and one refused to walk after surgery. Don't know about the 3rd. I know basically every surgeon loses a patient, but was wondering if this was high? Any thoughts or opinions? Thanks! — Marybeth O. (posted on June 20, 2001)

Dr. Murr is in the database here. Go to "find a doc" at the top
of any page. Click on "browse the list" and then select your
state. Dr. Murr is listed. Click on "view comments" and you will
get insurance information and patient comments. 3 deaths in only 175
patients sounds like a lot. However, many doctors are willing to accept the
higher risk patients even though it will cause their morbidity rate to
increase. I would definitely thoroughly research his statistics. This
includes asking him point blank.
