Question:
Can I start the insurance request over?

Several months ago I was denied coverage for gastric bypass surgery because of a written exclusion. I appealed and was denied. I had another appeal process where you can submit your information to a group of people in person. I quess I chickened out. I haven't saw my PCP in several months, but my elderly father has the same doctor. He asked my father about me Friday and wanted to know had I had my surgery. My father told him no. He sent me a message home with my father. Don't let them win. My request is valid and medically necessary. He has been my primary doctor for at least 12 years he said I can prove medical neccessity. I'm not sure if I can start this process over again. I have Blue Cross Blue Shield of Chattanooga PPO Blue prefered plan.    — Barbara Z. (posted on June 2, 2001)

Hey Barb, Why not? Sounds like your Doctor thinks it is possible and what have you got to loose? Go for it !!!! I am in the prosess of appealing my BC/BS denial.. It seems odd as BC/BS PPO's and traditional plans do pay for many gastric by passes so I think is just a matter of making sure they understand why you meet their crteria. Good Luck!!!!!
