Question:
Has anyone had a problem with sleeping on their back?
I am 6 weeks post op today. I had an open rny. I am not able to sleep or lie on my back for any long period of time. It isn't painful, just very uncomfortable. When I do lay on my back, it produces a lot of gas, and my stomach feels very weird (can't really describe the feeling). Can anyone else relate to this? THANKS!! — Andrea M. (posted on May 31, 2001)

Yes, I also had problems sleeping or laying on my back. But my problem was
that I couldn't stand it because of 2 prior back surgeries. I have slept
on my side since my first one in 1981 and can't go to sleep on my back ever
since. But I know what you mean by the weird feeling while lying on your
back. I still experience it even now at 10 1/2 months post-op. It is
almost like it is being stretched out too far. I have the same sensation
when I do abdominal exercises. Kind of a stretching thing. It doesn't
stop me from doing them because I am getting good results from it. I have
been going to Curves for Women 4 or 5 times a week for the past 3 weeks and
loving it.
