Question:
Help! I am having frequent periods and break-thru bleeding.

I am currently 3 months post-op. I began taking my birth control pills again at 1 month post-op. I had a period while I was in the hospital and then again 2 weeks ago (on schedule with my pills). However, now I am having another heavy period (the last one was very heavy and painful) in mid-cycle! I take my pills faithfully and at the same time every day. Has anyone else had this happen? Any input would be helpful. Thanks!    — Anne B. (posted on May 17, 2001)

I am still pre-op, but I know from past experiences that drastic weight loss or gain will reek havoc on your period! I would say it is probably perfectly normal, but you may want to check with your OB/GYN to let him know -- your system may not be absorbing your Birth Control pills they way it did before, which could be causing the break through bleeding -- It could also cause you to get pregnant so please be careful!! Good Luck and God Bless!!

I began having frequent periods immediately following my surgery. I had been on the pill faithfully for 2 1/2 years. My doc said that I might not be absorbing them as I should, so I switched to the depo shot. It has been three weeks since my first shot and I have not had another period. Lots of luck!

This starting happening to me also. I went to my GYN because I wasafraid I would get pregnant if the pill was not absorbed properly. I switched to the once a month shot Lunelle but my GYN told me that my hormones are all whacked out from the weight loss and it was nothing to worry about - just a nuisance.
