Diane, I have heard of people getting foul gas due to an unhealthy balance of bacteria in the intestinal tract. Have you tried using lactobacillus acidophilus? This is purported to increase the healthy flora in your gut and improve gas/odor problems in some people. Another thing to think about is whether you are lactose intolerant. Many, if not most, gastric bypass patients become LI after surgery, because the section of intestine where lactase enyme is naturally excreted is bypassed in the surgery. People who are lactose intolerant often report that when they eat too much lactose, or forget to take their lactase enzyme, they suffer from stinky gas. I am LI now, and have had great relief using a product called Dairy Care... unlike regular lactase enyme that muct be taken with every lactose-laden meal, the Dairy Care is a once-a-day supplement that contains both lactobacillus acidphilus AND lactase enzyme. I highly recommend it! The website is at http://www.dairycare.com. Good luck -- hope you get the problem figured out and fixed soon.

I don't know why more people don't discuss this problem.....We seem to be so honest about everything else. Yes, yes I know exactly what you are experiencing. You Little Stinker!! Carbs, Carbs, and more Carbs are our problems. I've tried everything and honestly nothing seems to help me either. I do always carry GAS-X with me and am very careful not to eat too many carbs if I am going to be in the company of friends. I also read somewhere on the internet that pepto bismol tablets help with the odor. I'm still trying it out. It does seem to help. Although, I know this is not much help, I thought I'd answer just to let you know you are not alone. If you find a true solution before I do please share Good Luck from the BIG CHEESE, my husband doesn't think it's as small a problem as all the doctors seem to think . GOOD LUCK & PLEASE REMEMBER TO SHARE IF YOU DO FIND A SOLUTION.

For a week or so, keep track of what you eat and when you experience the worse gas. Try eliminating that item from your diet when you need to control the gas. For instance, I love Raisen Bran cereal. But if I eat it in the morning, I have bad gas in the early afternoon. So I limit it to the evenings (I live alone and my dog simply finds me more interesting, although there have been a few that have driven him from the room...) Milk isn't the culprit for me, anything with whole wheat or wheat bran is. I used to have very severe gas, but have toned it down to a manageable level with eliminating those things that cause it. (Just like before this surgery, I never ate beans or White Castle Hamburgers before being in polite company.) Good Luck to you! P.S. What if we all banded together, formed a company and sold our 'natural gas' to California? Think about it before you say no...we could be rolling in clover...which reminds me: another help for the foul smell of our posterior poofs is taking chlorophyll tablets. I know some people who swear by them...

I only began to have really stinky gas and BMs when I got my protein intake where it was suposed to be in my fifth month post-op. I did some web research, and sure enough, protein digestion releases evil-smelling sulfides. Sulfides from a high protein diet are responsible for the smell of dog and cat poop and gas. It hit me- that's exactly what mine smell like, and the fact that it seems "inhuman" has been adding to my distress. I did more research to see what could be done about the smell (I CAN'T decrease my protein consumption), and the only thing that was reported to really help was taking some form of chlorophyll to neutralize the smell. Brain Flash! I have Nu-Greens in my fridge, and what are greens but chlorophyll? Guess what? I had some new greens and a Gas-X about two hours before a first date, and I didn't let one stinker (thank GOD!).
