Question:
Insurance co. refused to pay for consultation with surgeon, now what??
I just received an eob (explanation of benefits) from my insurance company (BC/BS Personal Choice PPO), that they are refusing to pay for the consultation with the surgeon, because they don't cover for that diagnosis. I don't know what diagnosis the surgeon's office listed. Has this happened to anyone, and the surgery was still approved? I am less than 1 month, before my surgery date. I can't believe this is happening!! I also have my pre-op testing this week. Thanks for any info. — Andrea M. (posted on March 24, 2001)

Yes. They will automatically refuse to pay for the psych exam too. But,
after they approve the surgery, just call them up and tell them to resubmit
everything associated with the surgery for reconsideration. Then, they
will pay. This happened to me too, and I also had Bc/bs

I had the same situation...from my first consultation till my approval was
about 9 months. Like everyone else said, I told them to resubmit it (shame
on me for not paying the bill earlier, but I was sure I could get this
approved.). It was then paid.
