Question:
Why don't I get full.
I am also 3 weeks post op. I feel like I could eat anything. I had a very speedy recovery and am hungry all the time. I can eat fast and it doesn't bother me at all. I feel like it was a failure. Also, I lost weight the first week, but I haven't dropped an ounce since. What's happening!!! I'm depressed about it. — Marla S. (posted on February 21, 2001)

You don't say what type of surgery you had, or what exactly you're eating.
Some people especially at 3 weeks are eating liquids or perhaps pureed
foods. They go through you rather quickly so you won't feel full until you
start eating more solid foods. However, don't rush this until your dr give
you the go ahead. Measure out what you're eating, make sure you're not
exceeding what the dr has suggested, both in quantity per meal, and number
of meals per day. I think at 3 weeks I was instructed to be eating about
2-3 oz per meal, and 3 meals per day, and I was just beginning to leave
pureed foods onto soft foods like cottage cheese and melon. Also, make
sure you are getting plenty of water and are starting some form of
exercise. All those things should help. Oops!! forgot to mention to try
to get in as much protein as possible. I would suggest just having a
quick conversation with your dr, or perhaps they can refer you to a
dietician who can give you some advise (that's what my dr does.) Keep a
log for a couple of days of exactly what you eat and when, and hopefully
they can help you get past this point.
Good Luck!!
