Question:
Did Mederma work on your scar?

A few months ago, several people posted and said they were trying Mederma on their scar and/or stretch marks. Please update us on if it worked for you - how long you used it, etc. Also, I'm doing lots of exercise, but sometimes look pretty 'dimply' in inner thighs and under arms - you know, those dangly things. Anything work on this?    — Toni B. (posted on June 11, 2000)

I purchased a large quantity of Mederma prior to trying it out. I saw no change whatsoever in my scar (or stretch marks for that matter) and even experienced negative side effects like itchy, irritated skin where I was applying the product. I have very sensitive skin so you might do ok with it but I think this is just one of those snake oil products.

Hey, Toni!! I tried using Mederma on my 7 little Laparoscopic incisions. I admit that I didn't use it as faithfully as I could have so I don't know if it would have worked better or not. But I didn't see much of a difference using the Mederma. I have a raised red scar in a couple of spots. I think I may try something different now. I don't have a model body but I guess I don't want to look any worse than I have to!! Also, as far as the dimples, the only thing I read that will help the skin's elasticity is water and exercise. Keep up the good work, Toni.

I used Mederma for awhile and was unimpressed, except that it made me itch. I have had betetr luck with Scargo for fading any flat spots. My scars go keloid, so I have had them injected by a dermatologist. It makes them lie down flat, then I fade 'em with Scargo. Keloid= fat, thick, burny or itchy, wormy or rope like. Some of us scar that way, some of us don't. Nothing will fix it except the injections. They don't hurt all that much and my insurance paid for 'em.

I have never used any of the medications for my scarring because I have very sensitive skin. My scarring was quite extensive. About 4 years ago, I had a procedure done that totally changed my scarring for life. Has anyone heard of Non-surgical Facelifts? They use a laser to remove wrinkles and blemishes. I had a coupon for a treatment at a local beauty salon, and when I got there I asked how the treatment worked. The lady explained, and then I asked if it would work on scarring. She said she had no idea. So, we tried it! She ran the little laser up and down my 12 inch scar for about 3 minutes. Poof! I could lay down with out my keloid tissue pulling and hurting. My scar went flat, clear, and soft! I can wear a bikini now. A Bikini, can you believe it! It cost me a total of $18.00. I have never needed it again, and my scar has never returned. I hope you have some luck. Email me if you need any more info. Sharon SHockley [email protected]
