Question:
Higher risk of PE in Diabetics?
After reading an article in "Health" Magazine, my mom is freaking out! She said the article stated that diabetics have a much higher risk of PE after surgery because we diabetics have problems with blood clots. I am a type II diabetic and have had 2 C-sections with no blood clotting problems. Should I be concerned? Is there some kind of medication I should be on after surgery to prevent blood clotting? My surgery is scheduled in 2 weeks. — Diana F. (posted on June 9, 2000)

Hello, Diana. I am type 1 Diabetic and I had my Surgery a month ago.
Everyone is different you might not get any blood clots at all. After,
Surgery they give you heparin shots and put you on the stockings and a
machine to keep your legs moving(I really don't know if your Doctor does
this one). When you can get up just do a lot walking. I haven't had any
problems with bloodclots so far. Have a safe and speedy recovery. Good
Bless You
