Higher risk of PE in Diabetics?

After reading an article in "Health" Magazine, my mom is freaking out! She said the article stated that diabetics have a much higher risk of PE after surgery because we diabetics have problems with blood clots. I am a type II diabetic and have had 2 C-sections with no blood clotting problems. Should I be concerned? Is there some kind of medication I should be on after surgery to prevent blood clotting? My surgery is scheduled in 2 weeks.
