Question:
Is is normal not to be able to keep foods down?
My best freind is 8 month post-op. She was doing fine now she cant keep any food down. She will eat and the food will come right back up. It will never hit her stomach because that is all she will through up is what she just ate. She does not have trouble keeping her liquids down just most of her foods. Can anybody help? This just started and we dont know what to do. Thanks — Michelle R. (posted on May 7, 2000)

Hi there. It sounds like a case of the getting smaller and smaller due to
scar tissue, or possibly a piece of "stuck" food. Your friend
may want to try the old meat tenderizer trick, often perscribed for such
happenings. Simply swallow a half teaspoon of meat tenderizer in a
spoonfull of water. If this doesn't clear any blockage, Please tell your
friend that she should contact her surgeon or go to the ER immediately for
a possible endoscopy. This is a simple procedure which will either push
the food down or clear the scar tissue which prevents food from passing.
There are many posts on this sight about how painless endoscopy is, in case
you want further info. Best of luck!

Perhaps your friend has an obstruction at the stoma or maybe the opening
has gotten smaller. At any rate, your friend needs to beat feet to the doc
and get it checked out.
Good luck to her.
