Question:
Please tell me about your experiences with Pilates.
My gym offers a Pilates mat (not machines) class. I'm thinking about trying it. Before I do, I thought I'd ask if any of you have tried Pilates and, if so, what was your experience. I am wondering if my time is better spent on aerobics and weights or if this form of exercise has benefits that I shouldn't pass up. Thanks for sharing your perspectives! — Biking O. Hi there. I do Pilates quite frequently. It is really hard work, but the
results are amazing. It is more of a toning/flexibility activity than
cardio for my purposes. I use it as I do heavy weight training and that
causes you to lose flexibility as you increase muscle mass, if you aren't
careful. For fat-burning, heart-pumping cardio, try a step class. For
some intense sculpting, Pilates is fantastic.

I just completed my second 6 week pilates class and LOVED it! After just
one class my obliques hurt what has never happened to me before. I have
also noticed a difference in my abs. One move has you sitting up striaght
with your legs out in front of you. You then slow lower your upper half
down to the floor vertebra by vertebra. Then once you are laying flat
your bring yourself back up to a seated position. When I first did this
move I could get back up to the seated position without grabbing behind my
legs and pulling myself up. In my last class I could do it all with my
hands at my side. You won't sweat a lot, but you will feel the workout.
