Question:
Is there a way to fight for approval even if my insurance excludes this procedure?
I haven't asked for approval yet. But here's what my insurance manual says. "Health Services and associated expenses for the surgical treatment and non-surgical medical treatment of obesity (including morbid obesity) are excluded." Is there a I way I can prepare for a fight if and when I'm denied? — radiotammy (posted on October 30, 2003)

Honey, I hate to say it... but that is pretty cut and dried. You can try,
but don't get your hopes up at all. Sorry...

Hi! My insurance said the same thing and they denied me the first time. I
appealled because when I called the insurance, one girl said that they had
approved it before but I will need referrals. I got two referrals and the
surgeon performing the operation to say it was medically needed. BUT... I
was denied again and they waited the max amount of time they had to give me
an answer. I was upset but this was my third denial. I say, don't get
your hopes up but still try. You could be a lucky person. Good Luck!

If your insurance is not self funded you may have a chance to go through
your states insurance commissioners office. It would not hurt to try.
When I talked to the MI office they were very nice and extremely helpful.
Good Luck< Becky
