Question:
I am having trouble staying awake after I eat
I am 25 years old and had my WLS in January of 2002. I started at 274 and am now 155-159. I am 5'4". I have PCOS and have been on 1000 mg of glucophage 2x a day for the last year or so. Lately, I get extremly tired after I eat. I can barely keep my head up. Last Friday I had to go home from work with severe nausia and couldnt stay awake. I was wondering if anyone else had felt like this. I have had no other problems with my WLS. — Heidi B. (posted on October 20, 2003)

I have this problem if I have to many carbohydrates.

I get that way too when I have too many carbs. I also get that weird,
sleepy feeling when my blood sugar drops low. Cut out the carbs and if you
still get this way, see your doc. Good luck. ~Sidney~ Open RNY 10-23-02

I have a little problem with sleepiness too. I think mine is from too much
carbs. I just had a bake potato and I'm looking for a bed as I type. I
think it's kind of trial and error type of thing. Hang in there!

The only time I have problems like that is if I've eaten too much or have a
mild dumping session. If I eat something with too much sugar (even
natural) I will get so sleepy I can't hold my head up. If I can lie down
for a few minutes I'm ok. You might pay attention to what you are eating
when this happens.

Heidi,
Maybe you should see your doctor about your dosage of glucophage. With
the change in your diet and the amount of weight you have lost, your body
may be signaling that it's time for a change.

I want to thank you all for your answers and let you know I have called my
endocriologist and they lowered to dose of Glucophage to 500mg 2x daily.
My surgeon is also sending me a lab slip to get my labs done. Thanks! -
