Question:
Will Wal Mart's Short Term Disability cover me for WLS?
I work for Wal Mart. I do not have health insurance through Wal mart but did take their STD and LTD. THey have HUGE exclusions in their health insurances for WLS. I am wondering if they will pay me STD for something that they exclude otherwise?? Any ideas??? Thanks a lot. Thanks — Lisa S. (posted on October 6, 2003)

Thanks for the quick reply.... However... was this Wal Mart that you worked
for??? See, Wal Mart can .... for lack of a better pharse.. make their own
rules....
I am asking specifically for Wal Mart associates....
Thanks..

I have worked for walmart for 17 yrs. and if I am not mistaken you STD and
LTD coverage have nothing to do with a surgery that is covered by them or
not. It is for coverage on a medical reasons that you cannot perform your
work duties and must be doctor advised (such as cannot return to work for
say 6 weeks after having major surgery) or longer if medically advised. You
have a 2 week waiting period before STD starts in effect, so if you have
sick hours, personal hours,or vacation hours you will need to use them first
in order to not have a 2 week time without a paycheck.Hope this info helps.

Your std and ltd will cover you as long as your out with a medicall reason.
It will take 2 weeks out before it will start. I am a ex walmart associate.

If it doesnt the Family Leave act and state disability should take care of
it.

I am a current Walmart employee and I just had my WLS on Sept. 26th. I am
on STD right now until Nov 6th, I'm going to try to go back on Nov 9th but
we'll see how I feel. All I had to do was call the insurance company
(Hartford Life) the day I was out and have my surgeon verify that I am
physically unable to work, and they are covering it. It takes a while for
the first check to go through, though. Please check with your HR rep, as I
am not sure if the STD plans here in PA are different than yours. Hope
that helps. Karen
