Question:
Did anyone have problems PRE-OP with healing?
Ok, here's the deal - for years, I've had problems with slow healing. I've mostly noticed it with skin cuts, etc. For instance, it will take 4-6 weeks (sometimes more) for scrapes and cuts to heal, and I mentioned this to the surgeon during our consult. He said not to be concerned, but that was about it. I AM worried, though...it's always bothered me how long it takes me to heal, and i don't have an explanation as to why. I am hypothyroid, a condition which is (supposedly) under controlled with meds...could that be why? Should i worry? Should i mention it to the surgeon again? Thanks again! I am a terrible healer...I've had sores on my stomach probably for about 10
years now...as they heal new ones open. So needless to say I was very
worried about my incision healing. On top of that I had been battling
cellulitis in my leg prior to (and now after) surgery. I had open RNY
April 7th and other than some clear fluid leaking from a small area of my
incision during the time my staples were still in my incision healed GREAT!
My staples stayed in for 3 1/2 weeks though just becuase that was the
first availible date to see my surgeon for a post-op visit. Best wishes!!!

Slow wound healing can be a symptom of diabetes. Have you had a complete
physicial by your PCP lately?
