Question:
Anyone get approved on Aetna Cobra...???
This question is being asked for a friend. She currently has Aetna (terrible to deal with & she has to have 5 or 6 months of charted diet history with a DR, she is doing that right now- she's in her 3rd month) anyways, she will be loosing her Aetna insurance due to her husband quiting his job. They plan on keeping the Aetna through Cobra. She is wondering if she will be able to still get surgery through Cobra? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated, THANKS A LOT! Even if anyone has had surgery on any Cobra plan, would like to hear from you... — heather S. (posted on June 8, 2003)

COBRA is not different insurance. It is a federal law which says that an
employer has to allow a former employee to stay in the same group plan they
were in before they were laid off. So, it's NOT a different policy. The
big difference is that the employer (former employer) doesn't have to pay
any of the premium and can also charge an administrative fee for your
friend to stay on the plan. As long as she and her husband are willing to
bear that cost, she should be fine. There could be one hitch. If your
friend is covered by insurance through her own job, then COBRA doesn't
apply to her, but if her only insurance is through her husband's job, she
should be fine.
