Question:
Has any one had an obstruction after surgery?
I had a bypass Oct 11, 2002 and was able to eat some food and I did throw up some of the time. Then March 6, 2003 I had my gallbladder removed. Ever since then I haven't been able to eat much at all except liquids. I throw up almost everything I do try t eat and have diareah all the time. My surgeon told me to call my family doctor which i did and they think i could have an obstruction. I am so weak and have no energy that I just can't stand thing anymore. Has any one experienced this? I was able to eat more before the second surgery but now its like impossbile and I don't even want to eat food anymore at all. The good thing is that I've lost 120lbs, but what a way to do it. Please can any one help me? — Lori M. (posted on April 1, 2003)

Lori, hang in there. I'm sorry for your problems. I, too, have had a hard
time eating (and keeping down) much of anything. (I had open rny 12/2/02
and have had 3 strictures.) Has the surgeon suggested that you may have
developed a stricture? Can you tolerate liquids/water okay? Is the pain
in your pouch or elsewhere? Keep a log of what you ate and when you got
sick to take to your doctor. Good luck!

i'm sorry you're suffering so much. what did your family doctor say to do?
this is not something you want to go untreated.

Lori,
I had an intestinal blockage, and I hate to say it, but you just described
my symptoms to a "T". The blockage was at the spot in my small
intestine, where the "Y" is connected. I was unable to eat
ANYTHING for 2 weeks prior to my surgery, and for 2 weeks after. Check out
my profile for more information. See your doctor, and have them do an Upper
GI. Just make sure that the doctor goes a little further down than normal.
My blockage wasn't caught for a month because the doctor only looked at the
area immediately below my stomach. Good luck.
