Question:
short term disability rejected me
I had to apply for short term disability coverage through a private insurer (Farmington Company) that my employer contracts with. Found out today that THEY REJECTED ME......get this, because I'M TOO FAT. If I weren't raging mad I would laugh. The very thing I am having the surgery for is the reason I am excluded from the coverage. Un-freaking-believable! Oh yeah, if you weigh more than 230 pounds you have to enroll only during open enrollment which comes every THREE YEARS (again, unreal!) in order to be approved. I have worked for this company (the same hospital where I am having my surgery, again the irony is overwhelming) for 2 years and my HR guy says the only chance I had to enroll was when I was hired. Anybody think I have a case for discrimination? What can I do? Thanks — RedHeadBeauty (posted on December 5, 2002)

I am dealing with a very stupid short-term disability company (Starbridge)
right now. They gave me the insurance but they are denying everything
because they consider everything pre-existing. It's been seven months
since my first submission and they are stalling, losing documentation etc.
Sounds like grounds for a discrimination case to me! Fight this one!
