Question:
How much does a self-pay lap RNY usually cost?

I'm a Canadian and no surgeons do the RNY laparoscopically here, and there is a wait of about 2 years for an open RNY (because it's 100% covered by our medicare system) . I'm considering travelling to the US to have the lap RNY done. How much (approximately) does this usually cost? I would be willing to go anywhere in the northeast.    — Patricia E. I have found that this amount varies greatly depending on where you have it done and your Dr. I may have to end up paying for it myself and was expecting it to be around $20,000, since that's what I had read a lot of different places. Well, as it turns out, my surgeon and hospital would be about $30,000 to $33,000!! I was quite surprised! BUT, this is a very, very top notch surgeon and is well worth the money. I've done a lot of research and his qualifications and success rate can't be beat. So, for me, it's worth the money. Do your research and call around, because all prices are not the same!
