Question:
Is there ANY individual insurance in Kansas that pays for WLS?
I have looked everywhere for insurance that pays for surgery and have come up empty handed. All the policies I've checked out has and exclusion. I'm scared to go with something that has an exclusion because I'm afraid I'll have the same problem as I have now with my group insurance (UHC). Anyone out there have individual insurance and they've paid for you surgery?? — kerryberry1 (posted on September 10, 2002)

Kerry...I don't know if my insurance has an individual policy or not but
the company name is Great-West and they approved my surgery with the first
letter. If you want their phone number I would be glad to give it to you
they also have a web-site. Just e-mail me!!!

Hi Kerry... some insurance companies here in Kansas are horrible. I have
BCBS of KS and I ended up being a self-pay. I look in my surgeon's list of
insurances that covered the surgery and they are Willis Corroon, United
Health Care (as of 6/15/01), Principal Financial Group, Preferred Health
Care, Humana, Corporate Plan Management, Cigna, Century, and Aetna. I'm
not sure if any of these have individual policies but at least you have a
list. You could probably call or find their website and find out. I saw
on your profile that you were going through Images in Texas for your
surgery. I had surgery with LivLite in Junction City (about 2 hours west
of Kansas City) and they are really good with insurance. They will fight
until they are blue in the face to try to get you approved. It's really a
great program if you're looking into the RNY. E-mail me if you have any
questions or anything! =)
