Question:
Sustained Release?
I've read here recently that sustained release meds will not work for rny patients. Is this true, and if so why? I started on Wellbutrin, which I had to take 3 times a day. Needless to say I usually ended up taking only 1-2 day because I would forget. So I switched to the SR and it seems to be working. Should I be concerned? — Robin O. (posted on August 9, 2002)

I take Wellbutrin SR, and did prior to surgery as well. I feel it is
working for me, although I considered going back on the standard release
because of what everyone else had said. But as I'm not having any
problems, I think I'll stick with what I've got. Also less chance of
seizures with the SR.

I recently began the timed release wellbutrin. I take on in the morning and
one mid afternoon and they work just fine for me. I especially paid
attention to this for a while since I've been told by many timed released
meds don't work for us but these are doing their job just fine.

I was on the timed release version of Welbutrin both before and after WLS.
After a year of my depression getting much more severe, I finally stopped
the time released version and switched to regular. So I'm surprised to hear
people say they take the SR version of it.
