Question:
Any ideas on reviving a numb behind?
Hi. I am 15 days post op and the major problem I have is that my behind has been numb (from sitting and laying down) since the surgury. At the hospital it was unbearable. Now I can lay on my left side in bed, so that helps a little, but my butt is still numb, especially near the (forgive me) butt crack. Cold compresses help a little, but everyday I struggle. Any ideas. Albert — Albert B. (posted on June 27, 2002)

Hey you described me:) Its from minor nerve damage done when strapped to
the OR table and does eventually over time go away. Its a good reminder to
be up and about. Less chance of blood clots. This is a common issue that
affects different parts of the body. Dont worry mine went away slowly over
about a month

Hi Albert,
I think you should speak to your surgeon for several reasons. Numbness
that persists for > 2 weeks is obviously significant and he can help you
with therapy and also to determine if your numbed area has been
significantly compromised. Seeking care will document that the problem is
due to surgery or consequent hospitalization and may help you later on with
insurance if your problem does not resolve. Are you having any problem
with incontinence? I would speak to the surgeon ASAP. Good luck!

You say you are numb from sitting and laying down. Try moving around more.
Sounds simple and silly, but just walking will help. And maybe try sitting
half way on a pillow. And if you think youre in pain now, just wait till
you sit around on your 100lb less behind. OOOOHHH eeee, that hurts. Just
driving home from work would kill me.
