Question:
Need Advise on Motels in San Diego Area near Airport
I need to find and reserve a room near the San Diego airport for the night before I fly back home following surgery. I'll be only 5 days post op from abdominal surgery and not up to doing flights of stairs. I'm hoping someone familiar with the San Diego area can give me some recommendations. As a woman, I'll be staying alone so would like to stay away from undesirable areas yet I'm also on a tight budget. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. — Shelly S. (posted on June 7, 2002)

Hi. I had to attend a seminar in San Diego recently, and I would suggest
the Hampton Inn, it has elevators, and is just down the street from the
airport. But if money is not a problem, you should go to the Embassy
Suites Downtown, because then you can have someone move your luggage for
you and they have room service, where Hampton Inn does not.
Good luck!

Hi. I don't know a thing about San Diego (wish I did) but here's a
suggestion. Call your surgeon's office and see if your hospital has a
"hospitality house", kind of like a Ronald McDonald house, where
you can "share" a house with other patients, yet have your own
private bedroom. The staff where I stayed at the hospitality house
connected to my hospital where I had surgery, they were the best. Check it
out. It only cost me $10/nite/person. My daughter and her boyfriend were
even able to stay there when they came to be with me during the surgery.
It saved us all a ton of money. Best wishes on your journey.

My company is headquartered in San Diego. I always stay at the DoubleTree
hotel in Del Mar. It's about a 20 minute cab ride from the airport. Very
very nice!

I'm from San Diego and there is alot of hotels on shelter Island, which is
directly across from the airport. The Sheraton is there and thats nice,
but if that is too much, just call them and ask if there is any other
cheaper hotels in the area. I'm sure they will know.

I stayed at the Holiday Inn Select. There are elevators, a bell guy to
take your luggage for you, and you can order broth and jello from room
service. I asked for the "Alvarado Special" room rate which gave
me a discount of around $40 per night. (I had my surgery done at the
Alvarado Hospital.)
