Question:
why am i able to eat so much at 7 weeks post-op?
i am 7 weeks post-op from open rny. i have lost 40lbs so far. but i havent lost any weight in the last 2 weeks. maybe i have hit a plateau. but i seem to be able to eat alot more than i did a few weeks ago and it scares me that i will lose control and go back to my old habits. also, i was able to eat a small piece of cake and had no dumping. i also have pain on the right side of my stomach about half way down. it hurts on the inside when i bend over. did i pop something open inside? — Tami K. Tami, A lot of people can eat without dumping... the unfortunate part is
those of us who can, have to be more careful about what we eat, it's all
too easy to fall back into those old habbits.. Fear can be a good thing
here, you know you're prone to doing it, so the fear can keep you concious
of that.. But seek help from a counselor or support group

Watch your "cycle time" women are also prone to eat more aroud
that time.
I had that same pain in my stomach, it turned out
to be nothing, but ask your Dr to check it out if it scares you, better
safe than sorry when it comes to the body! Good luck in your journey and
congratulations on your weight loss!

Hi Tammy... I am in the same situation as you are and have been since
nearly the beginning. I am not happy about it but I have to deal with it.
I have lost 100 pounds in 6 months and have to work hard at it. I stay
towards HIGH protein and low low carbs. I only take in less then 50 grms
of carbs a day. I exercise and drink my water, along wiht taking all my
vitamins. I wish I could have had it the other way but I didnt. I wish
the best for you. Please inform your doctor of this information. I do not
dump either on small amounts of sugared products. It has to do with the
amount of sugar you take in at one time. A small peice of cake may only
have 10 to 12 grams where as a candy bar has 30 to 40. I can NOT do candy
bars but cookies and cakes in small quanitities did fine. But at this
point in my life I stay completely away from them.. they are like alcohol
to an alcholic!.. my best wishes to you.........

Tami, first, congrats on the 40 pounds-thats wonderful. You may be on a
plateau and that is why the weight hasn't moved in the past 2 weeks. It
happens to all of us-I had one at 3 weeks that last for just over 2 weeks.
Just concentrate on high protein, lo carbs, lots of water and exercise and
you'll see it move again.
There are times when I can eat more than at other times, so don't let it
scare you. As long as it is not as much as you ate pre-surgery! As for
the pain, I had some pain on one side for a while-it went away in a few
weeks early on. Remember you had major surgery and need time to heal on
the inside-check with your doctor, though, always a good thing to do. Pam
was right when she said a small piece of cake might not have enough sugar
to make you dump. I am 4 months out and can eat a few bite sized cookies
without dumping.
