Question:
what is the difference between laproscopic and non laproscopic surgery?
i am looking into having the surgery and i have 1 doctor that does the laproscopic "rui-in-y surgery and 1 surgeon that simply does the rui-in-y! i dont think i pronounced "rui-in-y" corectly! but what the hey! can anybody help elaborate? please. — Keven F. (posted on May 8, 2002)

You can go to the library link above and you should find a detailed
explanation, but the short story is that open (non-lap) means you have a
long scar, at least 4 inches from sternum to belly button. You'd have to
ask your doctor how long the scar would be. Lap means that they use a
laparoscope to perform the surgery, so you get a few small 1"
incisions. My dr did 6 incisions, but some do fewer.
