what is the difference between laproscopic and non laproscopic surgery?

i am looking into having the surgery and i have 1 doctor that does the laproscopic "rui-in-y surgery and 1 surgeon that simply does the rui-in-y! i dont think i pronounced "rui-in-y" corectly! but what the hey! can anybody help elaborate? please.
