Question:
Can anyone suggest a PCP in the Fort Worth/ Dallas area who supports WLS?
I need a new PCP. My current PCP does not support WLS...(He could use WLS himself) and will not give me a referral. I have found several surgeons under my insurance that I could see if I could just get that referral. Desperate to get this started again. Please, please post suggestions. — grneyedtxn (posted on April 25, 2002)

I live in Justin, which is just outside of Denton. I have a PCP named Dr.
Rory Allen.
I went to him 2 weeks ago and told him that I was going to have the surgery
in June and he said that
although his personal experiences with WLS from previous attempt from
others he has known has not been good,
that he will still ok it for me to have it done as long as I research it
fully and
make sure that I follow the directions of my surgeon exactly! He is a
GREAT! Doctor and he is doing all of my
follow up work after the surgery since my surgeon is in Louisianna.
I have a PPO so I didn't have to get a referral but I am sure that if you
go in there and have researched the surgery and
talk with him about it, he will probably give you a referral, email me, and
I can call him before you come in and see what he says
about it. I hope to hear from you.

I should also mention that I have United Healthcare EPO and the PCP would
have to be on my list.

I also have UHC, but had my surgery under another ins. co. last year (plans
changed at the first of the year). I don't know how UHC would work with
this, but... I skipped the PCP part and made my appt with the Bariatric
Treatment Center in Wylie. For some reason they were happy that I had not
seen another doc prior to my consultation. BTC handled my ins. from the
very begining, I never even talked to my ins. co. My initial consult was
$80 and that was ALL I paid out to BTC. For $80 you might give them a try,
maybe it'll work :) I wouldn't recommend anywhere else, I was pampered,
spoiled, and left there feeling like I had just lost my best friend! They
are wonderful! If you would like to call them and see how they would
recommend handling your insurance, the phone number is 1-877-532-8633.
Good Luck! DC

I go to Dr. Marilyn Justice in Irving. She is wonderful. The first time I
walked through that door as a new patient and told her I was looking into
WLS she asked if I already had a referral. She said if I needed one, to
just let her know (I didn't, my insurance doesn't require one). She has
been so supportive and they have a few other patients that have had the
surgery. I would definately call her and see if she is on your plan.
