Question:
Has anyone living in PA with Keystone Health Plan POS successfully had WLS?
My primary care physcian recently submitted my letter of Medical Necessity to Keystone. I just don't know what to expect, will this be a battle, or will it run smoothly? I know that everyones experience may be a little different. But I just wanted to get a general idea. Also is it ABSOLUTELY neccessary that I have Physcian supervised diets documented. I am currently 280lbs. and I stand 5' 7". And the last time that my diets were medically supervised was in the early 90's. That was when I still had medical insurance. But I always tried several other diets on my own, unsuccessfully. My current PCP said that it shouldn't be much of a problem, that I should be ok because in my case it is medically neccessary. Does anyone out here have any advice for me, or would like to share thier experiences with Keystone POS with me? — [Anonymous] (posted on December 28, 2001)

I have Keystone Blue HMO and had no problems at all getting it approved. I
don't know how much different the two are (HMO vs POS) but I thought it was
actually easier to get the surgery approved through POS, at least that is
what I have heard in regards to other insurances. I didn't have to have
any doctor assisted diets, psyche tests, visits to the nutritionist or
other tests that so many insurances seem to want you to have. Maybe I was
lucky... Where in PA do you live? Who are you looking to do your surgery?
Good luck with your adventure and I hope that you don't have any problems
with the insurance...
