Question:
HELP, I'm 9 weeks post op and still having massive diarrhea??

Any suggestions I'm nine weeks post and having so much diarrhea that I haven't returned to work. Every day I wake up and feel great then I start with the diarrhea 2-4 bouts and I'm a dishrag. I'm afraid to leave the house because I've been incontinent a couple of times in my car because I couldn't find a bathroom quick enough. Any help would be appreciated.    — Harley S. Harley -- look up Daryl Davidson and then go to his website. He has more information than you ever wanted to know! Someone posted this a few weeks ago and I found it very helpful. I am pre-op but have IBS. Nina

Harley, have you called and asked your doctor for some help ?? Something definately needs to be done. You could be lactose intolerant too. I have read where that can cause bad diarrhea. So until you can get to the doctors, cut out all your dairy and see what happens. Good Luck!

I had the same problem after I got home and started drinking Carnation Instant (fat/sugar free) breakfast and included skim milk ... THAT was causing my diarrhea for 6 weeks. After I quit the milk products the diarrhea stopped. It had too many milk-sugars in it. Are you eating something that has lots of natural sugar in it?

Did you happen to have your gallbladder taken out when you had your RNY? This will make you have "D" also. Then you may want to consider what you are eating. I am 7 weeks post op, had my gallbladder taken out with my surgery and up until this week have had "D" like that. It was what I was eating. High Fat(in creamed soups and stuff like that) and hidden sugars. I ate a lean cuisine canolli and it fixed my problem right up. If you look at all that and don't see a problem then talk to your doctor about it. My doctor told me I could take immodian A&D for it.

Call your doctor. Severe Diarrhea will lead to dehydration. That could cause some serious problems, and be very hard to replenish your fluid supply. Diarrhea that lasts for more than a few days should be check out even if you haven't had the surgery. Please, get checked out.
