Question:
Has anyone tried getting approval from Mutual of Omaha recently?
I recently started a new insurance - Mutual of Omaha, and my paperwork was submitted for pre-authorization. My ins. co. called the surgeon last week and said it was an exclusion, but I know its covered if "medically necessary". So now I move on to the appeal process. Anyone have advice to share regarding this insurance company? Thanks. — Kay G. (posted on September 18, 2001)

Kay, I have Mutual of Omaha insurance and was approved in a very short
time. I also had no health problems other than obesity. Good Luck.

I, too, was turned down for LAPAROSCOPIC RNY. I have several
co-morbidities, so know it should be covered. Apparently they consider
laparoscopic surgery as "experimental." No, I don't know what
year of the Dark Ages they live in!! Was your surgery lap? We are in the
process of appealing, but don't know what the outcome will be. Good luck
to both of us.

I have been denied in the last week, with Mutual stating
"investigational", but tonight I have someone send me FDA
documentation specifically stating it's no longer
"investigational" I'll submit to them on Monday. I also have alot
of other back up paperwork if it come to a full blown appeal. Let me know
if I can help.
