Question:
Please help! I have been sick for the past three days...
Three days ago I started throwing up. At first I thought it was just a bug. But now i am still trowing up. I am three weeks post op and have had NO problems. I was wondering if this sounded like a obstruction of some kind. I keep liquids down and have keep soft proteins down but seem to throw up everything else. I am scared to death. About 3 weeks post-op I had the same thing. It started on Wedsnday, and
lasted till Sunday. I couldn't keep any thing down, the doctor said that it
might be a virus, but he really didn't know.....Finally little by little I
was able to drink and eat.

Please contact your doctor. While it may be a virus, you could have
developed a stricture or narrowing which is causing more of the liquids to
pass, but nothing else. Also you don't want to get dehydrated. Take care.

You say your 3 weeks post op
and you say you can keep down liquids and soft proteins
that is good enough for a while
Keep in Mind you have just had Major Surgery and completely
reconfigured your stomach and intestines and for the first
few weeks your suppose to baby your new Pouch/Stomach
think of yourself as a new born and feed your stomach accordingally
Don't rush this
Don't try new foods just to see if you can tolerate them
Eat no sugar
Eat no ice cream
Do not set your self up for failure
THIS IS A TOOL ONLY
USE IT WISELY

My hubby did this about 2 1/2 weeks post-op and went back in the hospital
for severe dehydration - was on IV for 3 days. I recommend seeing your doc.
It takes very little to become dehydrated after WLS! His liver and pancreas
enzymes were way out of line and had it gone a day longer, the doc said it
could have caused permanent liver damage. It's safer to check it out with a
simple blood test. Hubby is home and doing fine since! Good luck!

Hi there, I am also three weeks post-op and am having the same problem. It
is normal. I know two others who went through this on some level...just
calm down and go back to soft and liquids. My doctor doesnt want me eating
anything remotely solid for another two weeks, and now I understand why!!!
It's back to protein shakes (fresh fruit ones) and quick-grits with
shredded cheese added for protein. I am learning that poached eggs stay
down too...slide a broken egg into about an inch of boiling water and let
it cook until it turns white. They are great with salt and pepper. :)
Write to me in a week, I bet we are both feeling better!! Sandra
