Question:
having pain 7 weeks out from hernia repair
7 weeks ago, i have lap hernia repair for a 9cm hernia. the doc thought he was going to have to do it open it was so big. (i looked about 6 mos pregnant) he put the mesh over my entire abdomen as i've had a few surgeries, and he was concerned that i'd have to have a re-do eventually. (the surgery actualy hurt 10 times worse than my open rny.) anyway, he said after about 6-12 mos the discomfort should go away completly. i'm having a lot of pain about 12 inches to the right of my bellybutton. according to the doc,it's where he says the end of the mesh is, and there is a ball of stiches tacking it to the muscle. i'm currently in a sit down job, and by the end of the day i hurt so bad it hurts to breathe. tylenol blunts it just enought to be bearable. this has just started happening this bad about 3 days ago. before it was just a mild discomfort. it helps when i stand up straight, or if i lay down flat and put heat on it. if it's not better by monday, i will call the doctor, but was wondering if any post ops with hernia repair has had the same problem... out 20 mos down 120 lbs... — mellyhudel (posted on January 29, 2005)

Yes, I have pain everyday!!!! I didnt have mesh though, my pain is also on
the right side, it feels like a constant pulling, streching in my stomach.
I also found out now I have another Hernia on the other side :(. And it can
stay there for now, you are not kidding I also thought the hernia repair
was more painful then the WLS surgery, that is why Iam in no hurry for this
one to get repaired. I had my surgery in Oct of 2004. Well hope all goes
well for you, keep me posted on your out-come. Good Luck

Hi, I had a triple hernia repair with mesh and an abdominal plasty 4 months
ago, I still have pain where the hernias where. I was told that I may
always have pain where the mesh is, but its pain that I can live with, mine
seems to be worse when Im in bed rolling over and getting up in the
morning,, good luck to you. Amy

I actually came on line to post this same question. I had this pain about
the same time as you, no mesh though, called Mayo and was told this was
common, it seemed to actually get better and now a month later I had such
pain in my right side. Wearing my binder from surgery seems to help some. I
have no idea the reason but wanted you to know you are not alone.
